Charity

By All About Hair, News & Press No Comments

When Kent’s celebrity hairstylist Vicki Lord heard about teenager, Beth Sullivan’s charity chop, she stepped in to make sure that it was snipped with style. Beth 15, a pupil at Herne Bay High, gave up twelve inches of flowing locks to Vicki’s scissors in aid of the #choptoyourchin campaign being run by, ‘Little Princess Trust.’ The charity provides real hair wigs for children suffering hair loss, due to cancer treatments and other illnesses. Vicki told us, “Most teenage girls want to take control of their identity, express their individuality. And often, much to mum and dad’s dismay, this involves trading pretty, long hair for something sassier! But taking part in the #choptoyouchin campaign, takes the pain out of it, going shorter becomes much more than a restyle, it is a gift. The feel good factor is amazing and it’s so easy to do. Beth’s hair was super long, so she was able to donate a full twelve inches, but seven inches is the minimum; you just fasten the chopped hair with a band and post to ‘Little Princess Trust’. This charity is doing amazing work and I am delighted to help in any way I can.” Beth heard about the campaign from her cousin Emma Panayides from Canterbury, who underwent the chop with her. Beth couldn’t wait to show off her new look and hopes that her charity chop will inspire others to #choptoyourchin. Full details of the campaign and how to take part can be found at www.littleprincesses.org.uk by Lorraine Lucas, image also taken by Lorraine Lucas

#IamChiChi Advert

By News & Press No Comments

Here is the advert I styled hair on recently for ChiChi London… it was a long day at a beautiful venue and a hard working team: It just proves how much work goes into a short commercial… I suggested my mohawk to the producer and director when they said they wanted an outstanding hairdo… I achieved very quickly due to time pressures – which, is expected on-set sometimes – and i used Balmain hair pieces and Batiste dry shampoo… if you have not seen the advert yet… here it is:  (Thanks to Damien, one of the V-team who supported me)

#HOW-TO DO A FULL VOLUME #BLOWDRY

By Hair Tips & Tutorials No Comments

Whatever the occasion, whatever the era and whatever your style… when it comes to a full-on, massive blow-dryed hairstyle, with super volume, it is a hair-do certain to make you look glamorous

And here is how to create the look in just ten steps…

Tools needed: Large and medium sized barrel round brush, vent brush, hairdryer, sectioning clips, back brush, full volume mousse, dry shampoo, and hairspray.

Hair length required: Medium to long

  1. Shampoo and condition hair, towel dry.
  2. Apply full volume mousse evenly through the roots to the ends of damp towel dried hair.
  3. Using a vent brush and a hairdryer on the part-dry hair until it is approx 80% dry, concentrating on the root area, wrap dry hair around the head to create as much root lift as possible.
  4. Work from the nape area taking horizontal sections of hair, wrap a section of hair around your round brush taking it up to the root area, blast with a a cold heat to set the curl.
  5. Unwind the hair with the brush in the opposite direction to create a curl.
  6. Now lift the curl back into a pin curl and pin the hair with a sectioning clip, allow to set.
  7. Repeat this process until you reach the crown area.
  8. For the crown and top of the head area, swap brushes to your large round brush, now blow dry hair once again by wrapping the hair round the brush and then clip to set.
  9. Once hair has cooled remove clips.
  10. Spray dry shampoo at the roots and back brush hair to create volume and style as desired.
