A Whirlwind of Vintage Waves, Bridal Braves, Fabulous Braids, Super Features and Soon To Be Revealed Secrets… Shhhh!

Hello all, I’m so excited to report that things have been crazy busy in Vicki Lord Land… but in a good way!  I’ve had some lovely, talented students at the Vicki Lord Hair Academy on my recent Vintage Wave and Braiding courses, (they are now members of my Beautiful Hair Family of course!) And enquiries are coming thick and fast for the next ‘Vicki Lord Two-Day CPD Bridal Hair Course’.    I can’t put into words how much I enjoy passing on my knowledge and experience to other aspiring hair designers and seeing the buzz they get when they see the results they achieve – that, and styling my beautiful brides… I know that I’m one fortunate lady… can’t think of a better job to have.    It’s made all the more special when the love that goes into your work is recognised by the media, so I was over the moon to see that we got the front cover, a double page spread and a special ‘Editor’s mention’ in this month’s fabulous ‘Your Kent Bride’ magazine.

I had such a great time on this shoot. It was a back to nature affair about pushing the boundaries and shaking up conventional ideas of how a bride should look.

Kerry-Ann Duffy, our fantastic photographer, really embraced the theme with the gorgeous Preston Court and beach locations.  Helen Lee did an extraordinary job of the make-up and what can I say about our stunning models Jordan Martin and Meggie Lodge… in this case I think pictures speak louder than words!

Thank you so much ‘Your Kent Wedding’ and I’m sad to hear that the lovely Editor ‘…..’ is leaving, everyone at Vicki Lord Hair wishes you happiness and in your next role, we know you’ll smash it! And we of course warmly welcome your successor.  I also have to give a big ‘shout out’ to Crystal Fairies in Birchington who supplied the beautiful dresses, Glitzy Secrets for the fantastic […]  and Balmain of course, for the glorious hair extensions.

And watch this space, I’ve been on an exciting mission this week working with one of the world’s top photographers… Perou!!!!! It’s a bit ‘Hush, hush’ right now… but I think I might explode with anticipation… can’t wait to share with you.  Thanks for reading, catch up soon xxfullsizeoutput_2b57 fullsizeoutput_2b5d fullsizeoutput_2b63

New York Bridal Runway Wedding Dress Trends For 2018

By All About Hair, Bridal Hair, Hair Tips & Tutorials, News & Press, Weddings No Comments

vicki_detling_boho_edit4LRpsdBridal trends for 2018

Bridal dress trends for this year are a little more daring! As seen on the New York run ways last month! Brides now days are becoming much more fashion forward. I’m so excited to see some of my wonderful brides sporting such elaborate dresses.

Trends to look out for include; The more skin the better!, front splits, two pieces, capes, detachable skirts, semi-opaque lining, transparent fabrics, plunging necklines, open backs and 3D floral appliqué

Hair styles this year will be all about parallel Dutch braids still very much in keeping with Game of Thrones for those romantic boho brides. Try applying braiding hoops to your braids for an edgier style!

For the demure elegant brides, keep it shiny and slick straight hair, that’s tucked behind the ears aka Kim Kardashian!

The curly shag hair is a big look this year so I’m hoping my brides will take on a more Advant Guarde Afro approach to their curly locks of hair, big, big and more big curls!

To book your bridal hair please see my website at www.vickilordhair.com for more information.

When Kent’s celebrity hairstylist Vicki Lord heard about teenager, Beth Sullivan’s charity chop, she stepped in to make sure that it was snipped with style. Beth 15, a pupil at Herne Bay High, gave up twelve inches of flowing locks to Vicki’s scissors in aid of the #choptoyourchin campaign being run by, ‘Little Princess Trust.’ The charity provides real hair wigs for children suffering hair loss, due to cancer treatments and other illnesses. Vicki told us, “Most teenage girls want to take control of their identity, express their individuality. And often, much to mum and dad’s dismay, this involves trading pretty, long hair for something sassier! But taking part in the #choptoyouchin campaign, takes the pain out of it, going shorter becomes much more than a restyle, it is a gift. The feel good factor is amazing and it’s so easy to do. Beth’s hair was super long, so she was able to donate a full twelve inches, but seven inches is the minimum; you just fasten the chopped hair with a band and post to ‘Little Princess Trust’. This charity is doing amazing work and I am delighted to help in any way I can.” Beth heard about the campaign from her cousin Emma Panayides from Canterbury, who underwent the chop with her. Beth couldn’t wait to show off her new look and hopes that her charity chop will inspire others to #choptoyourchin. Full details of the campaign and how to take part can be found at www.littleprincesses.org.uk by Lorraine Lucas, image also taken by Lorraine Lucas

#Spring time classic bridal hair

By Hair Tips & Tutorials No Comments

Spring arrives and it is the marking of new beginnings, the blooming of flowers and fruit and the start of bridal season… It is a great time of year to marry the partner of your dreams, and for a bridal hairdresser it is fabulous to have an array of flowers to choose from for fresh accessories in the hair.

This style is sleek and classic, so subtle flowers with one larger statement flower looks great. But flowers can be worn in vintage styles, modern bridal hair and you can have lots of flowers decorating a boho bridal hair do… so be inspired by nature and talk to your bridal hairdresser about fresh flowers as the perfect hair accessory for your spring wedding.

Rope Braid #HairTutorial

By News & Press No Comments

I’ve started a Hair Clinic on my youtube channel… working with models or friends and demonstrating achievable hairstyles for you to do yourself or on somebody else…

Below is the rope braid tutorial, and as you can see it is long before Megan gets the hang of it. It looks great just as a braid in itself, or to create more detailed looks.

  • Pop hair in a ponytail,
  • Separate the hair into two sections,
  • Then twist one section in one direction, and the second section in the opposite direction and then wrap,
  • Continue with this pattern all the way to the end of the hair and then secure with a band.

It can be a nightmare watching your client move around after styling their undo hairstyle to perfection, whether it is a model or a bride, because you know that the hair has to remain perfect for the shoot or for the wedding ceremony… but with years of experience you learn to deal with such delicate matters, besides if you style the up-do correctly and securely in the first place it is usually fine, and doesn’t slip.

Most hairstylists, including myself secure certain styles with clips, but when sectioning the hair and using these clips indentations can form on the sleek hair, so I use tissues, clips and nets, as protective layers, and I add spray, this way the hair stays in place, but without being marked or damaged.

Thanks from #Brides

For anybody who loves hair as much as I do, they would tell you that creating the perfect look for a bride on the best day of her life is extremely rewarding, as you know that you are adding a sparkle to her special occasion… And it is also lovely to hear back from the brides… here is a message from Becky, which I received after doing her beautiful intricate do…

Just like to say a huge thank you for doing my hair, I had so many lovely comments!! Saying it was amazing you truly are fantastic!! Also for helping me get into my dress!! Thank you again;o)  You truly are a star ;o) Becky xx”

Hayley sent me the following:

Dear Vicki,

I wanted to thank you again so much for doing such an amazing job on 30 April 2011! As you know from the trial, my hairstyle for the day was one of my biggest concerns and I cannot thank you enough for perservering and coming up with something really beautiful and unique. I was so pleased with it and received such lovely comments about the style. It was quite clear that you really had taken on board all of my comments/concerns/requests! Despite the wind (and a child stepping on the veil as I walked back up the aisle removing it from my head!!) the style remained in place all day!

I know that the girls were also delighted with their hairstyles, as was I – still amazed that you were able to create the same style for all three girls, especially given the length of Astrella’s natural hair!

Your styling really is a work of art, you have an amazing creative flare, a love for what you do and teamed with your desire to achieve perfection this really comes across in the finished article! I am so very glad that I booked with you because I know that no one else would have been able to create something for me that I loved and felt 110% comfortable with! Thank you very much – you made me one very happy bride!

Take care
Hayley xx”

“I just want to say a MASSIVE thank you again to my wonderful hairy godmother for giving myself and my bridesmaid such beautiful hair on my wedding day. You did an amazing job and I can’t thank you enough. Your brill sense of humour also helped to keep the pre wedding jitters away. I will send you some wedding pictures from our photographer soon. If we make it into an issue of wedding ideas magazine we’ll send you a copy as well. Thanks again, love Amanda :)”
